Problems with wireless 2200BG

I'm having problems connecting to my netgear router with Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG card.  The wireless connection keeps disconnecting after short periods of time and the signal is very patchy from certain regions of the house (my brother's laptop has no such problems in the same region of the house).  Even in areas very close to the router where the signal is strong, it will still disconnect regularly.  I have updated the drivers however I still have the disconnection problem. My laptop is an inspiron 8600 and runs on windows XP.

I've searched these forums and it seems like this is a common problem, however there does not seem to be a solution besides getting a new network card.  I did have an extended warranty however that just expired 2 months ago, and I have only just recently gotten wireless. =( bad timing

Is there any solution to this problem without me required to spend more $$$ buying a new network card?

does any of the lights on the router change when you get disconnected with your 8600?

have you upgraded to the latest fireware on your devices

un-install and re-install your drivers for your 2200bg wireless card...

also , restore your notebook to an earlier date, and see if that helps

check your  adpater settings, believe you have two choices are what is managing your network,,,try disabling one , and trying the other..

while a lot of people, myself included, had *significant* problems with the 2200bg, most of those posts were related to early versions of the 9 series drivers.  stability has improved a lot since then.

    In addition to ronss's suggestions:

i would advise using the latest drivers from intel's website directly, as dell's are sometimes out of date.  you can install the entire package (including proset software) or extract the drivers (I like 7-zip for this, but winzip or winrar will prolly work too) and only update them via device manager.

if you're currently using windows (WZC) to manage the connection, give proset a shot.  If you're current using proset, try WZC.
