I recently bought i6000 notebook with Intel/Pro 2200 wireless network card. I also have the desktop PC-Dimesion 4300 with no wireless card and dial up connection. I want to set up the wireless network between the desktop and notebook. So I have been looking up for wireless equipments by went browsing around store and surf the web. Now I am not sure if I can have wireless router because I have the dial connection (I can't afford DSL or Cable modem right now). I wonder the wireless router would be working if i have network adapter for the desktop and make a network connection with the i6000. Will it work? Please help me :smileyindifferent:
You have 2 options. The simplest is find a wireless router that makes a dialup connection. The only one of these devices I have seen mentioned on these forums is the one at - http://nebowireless.com/tech.html, although I am sure there are others out there. Second option is to get a regular wireless router, configure it as an access point, connect the desktop to the router with an ethernet cable, and enable Windows built-in Internet Connection sharing on the desktop's dialup connection.
You could install a wireless network card in the pc and share the dialup connection with the laptop or another option is a wireless dialup adapter. check this little diddy out. http://www.alwaysonwireless.com/wiflyer.html
If you go with the wireless adapter in the pc you set your wireless networking up as "ad hoc" which is the wireless equivilent of a cross over cable for wired networking 2 computers without a hub or router.
