Hello. I need to set up my Dell Inspiron so that it can share files and printers with my Dell Dimension desktop. The printer is connected directly to my Dimension desktop. For your information, I
can access the internet using both my laptop and my desktop via wireless networking. I just can seem to figure out how to print from the notebook or how to access the files on my desktop. Thanks in advance.
Good evening. Thanks for the prompt response. I am, however, still having difficulty sharing printers and files. When I go to the add printer box in the printer/faxes section of the control panel, the printer that is connected directly to my desktop does not appear. I have even tried to add it by typing the name in directly but to no avail. I have even removed the firewall thinking that may be having some effect on this whole thing. I'm not very computer literate when it comes to wireless network. If someone would be so kind to give me step by step possibilites on how to share printers I would be ever so grateful. Thanks in advance.
Perhaps
this illustrated guide from Microsoft will help clarify things. The idea is to mark the printer as shared on the machine the printer's connected to, and give the "shared printer" a name by which it will be known on your network. Then, on the other machine, using the "Add Printer" wizard, find the shared printer on the network. File sharing is similar, but let's see if we can get printer sharing working first!

See the links listed below under "XP Networking Help". It's likely that the issue involves either the XP firewall or sharing setup.
