Low disk space

Hi:

I have a DELL desktop computer Windows XP. I started getting messages that I have a low disk space. I deleted lots of Word documents, pictures, and videos. I deleted all from the internet options. Then I did a disk clean up. I defragmented files. Despite all this, I still have a low disk space. What is strange is that the number for free space changes and actually becomes lower instead of increasing.

 What shall I do next?

Please help! Thank you in advance.

Malwsre/spyware can affect the disk space.  Using a P2P program (e.g. limewire) can expose your computer to worms, etc that can use your PC to do rouge things.

Do a complete antivirus, spyware,, malware scans as a first step.
