CPU on 7050

So I have a Dell optiplex 7050  that was given to me by someone but I want to test it there is no processor in the computer so can I use an i3 or i5 instead of the i7 7700 it comes with will i3 or i5 work just to test the computer as buying i7 7700 will be a bit expensive if the computer doesn't work

 Intel Core i3-6100 (DC/3MB/4T/3.7GHz/65W)

Intel Core i3-6100T (DC/3MB/4T/3.2GHz/35W)

Intel Core i5-6400T (QC/ 6MB/4T/2.2GHz/35W)

Intel Core i5-6500

I am wondering if anyone of this will work if anyone has answer reply as soon as possible

That is a good list that @JOcean  posted and I agree ... I would only try to install main-processors that originally shipped inside that machine.

Quad-cores are usually about twice-as-fast as duals, so I would recommend one of those (even if it's an i5).

I think the way this works is that you buy the processor you ultimately want to use in that machine. If it doesn't work out, you return it or you custom build a computer around it.
