400SC KVM Problems

Hi,

I'm using an IOGEAR Miniview Extreme KVMP switch that works fine with my Inspiron 8200 and my Dimension 4600, but all I get from my 400SC is video - no keyboard or mouse.

This type of KVM switch uses just one integrated cable that carries the video, mouse and keyboard signals. I've switched cables so that doesn't appear to be the problem.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

I'm able to use a KVM with my 400SC. It's a  Trendnet TK200.   My cables are molded together as 1 piece  but still have separate video, PS2 keyboard and PS2 mouse connectors, if that's.what you mean by "integrated cable."

If yours has USB KB/mouse connectors then you might have issues.  Some people have had probems getting USB devices working correctly on the 400SC.

Thanks for the reply. By integrated, I mean that I do not have a seperate keyboard or mouse cable - just one cable that carries all signals connected to a USB keyboard and mouse on the console.

Since USB is involved, you might want to make sure you have the correct drivers installed.  Search here and in the  Aaltonen Dell site at

    http://www.aaltonen.us/forums/index.php

From the Aaltonen site's 400SC FAQ, in case you're using XP:

Q: Will the 400SC work with Windows XP?
A: While, not officially supported by Dell, the 400SC works fine with Windows XP Pro (and forseeably XP Home as well). You will need no drivers for the install, but after installation download and install the following:  (list of driver links follows)

The other possibility mentioned there is faulty USB on the motherboard, but that usually applies when the USB device draws a lot more power than a KVM would need.  Still, it's a possibility.
