Dell T320 PSU problem

Hello,

We have a T320 with the stock non-redundant 350W PSU.

Until recently, we had 6 x 1TB drives in the Hot Swap bays and a Perc H310 PCI-E RAID controller.

We swapped the H310 for a H710P controller (much quicker!) and added 2 x 4TB drives in the 2 open hot swap bays. Now, when rebooting the message:

"Alert! Power required exceeds PSU wattage. Check PSU and system configuration.

Alert! Continuing system boot accepts risk that system may power down without warning

Strike the F1 key to continue. F2 to run the system setup program"

If I remove one of the 4TB drives, I can boot without problems.

Any suggestions? I am surprised that Dell have shipped a system with 8 hot-swap drive bays but not enough power to use them.

Thanks in advance,

Jerry.

    Hi Robert,

    Thanks for replying.

Upgrading the PSU should be possible...

Is it possible to replace the existing non-redundant PSU with a higher wattage redundant PSU?

Regarding the PCI cards, we replaced a Dell H310 with a Dell H710P and these are the only PCI cards in the system.

I appreciate your suggestion of testing with 2TB drives but since the T320 support 4TB drives, we would like to get these to work. And the difference in capacity is 100%....

    Thanks for you attention.

    Jerry.

Is there a way to disable the warning at bootup?  I'm running a headless server and that warning prevents rebooting/booting without being at the server to F1 pass the warning.

    Hi @rvs007,

You can try disabling/ignore the prompt in BIOS page 32: https://dell.to/3JilXpP

    "

F1/F2 Prompt on Error Allows you to enable or disable the F1/F2 prompt on error. By default, F1/F2 Prompt on Error is set to Enabled.

    "

But just to inform, if you were to disbale the prompt, any other failures might be ignored too.
