OS Installs using LifeCycle Controller and USB drives
With the size of ISO’s coming from Microsoft – it no longer practical ordering a DVD drive when purchasing a new server. To me the logical alternative is a USB drive. But the lifecycle controller doesn’t treat a USB drive like an optical drive. So I’m relegated to booting from the USB to install the OS and wrestle with drivers – increasing installation time bigly.
Is there a better way?

If the server being used has an iDrac Enterprise installed then you can simply use the Virtual Media function and mount the install media to it. The iDrac would need to be Enterprise and not the Express version, as Express doesn't have the Virtual Media option enabled.
Also, what is the specific server being used?

It doesn't make it necessarily speedier, but a lot more convenient. The Enterprise is a purchased license, which will add the Virtual Console, as well as the Virtual Media function. Which are huge when remote access is required for the server.

I’ve got an R430, that does have the iDrac express – I think the Enterprise was a purchase. So in the future, I should buy the iDrac Enterprise to help with a speedier install?
