Replace Raid 1 on Dell PowerEdge R540 ESXI v6.7

Hi,

I would like to replace the RAID 1 on a Dell PowerEdge R540 ESXI v6.7.

I initialized the new RAID at the BIOS.

Is there a document I can follow to allow me to mirror the existing RAID to the new one. The new RAID is larger and I need to be able to expose the large storage as the new Datastore.

Thanks

Hello thanks for choosing Dell. However, Dell does not support RAID VD migration so I can't be of much help this time. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

what would stop you from just making the new raid, and then using a drive cloning utility to copy all the stuff over?

like acronis, or macrium reflect, or countless others

other option is to use a harddrive toaster to clone the drives.

take one of the old drives (they are identical because raid 1) and clone it using a toaster over to one of the new bigger drives. just do this twice so you have a matching set.

Then in the raid controller set up your raid 1 but simply DO NOT initialize so it doesnt wipe the drive.

here is an example of a toaster

    Chribonn,

While Dell doesn't support cloning and such, as Young had stated, what you may want to consider is Online Capacity Expansion (OCE). Online capacity expansion is used to add additional drives/space to a preexisting virtual Disk, and you can find steps for it here.

Let me know if this helps.

I am familiar with CloneZilla and have used it elsewhere. I'm new to ESXI and was wondering whether Dell had a tool that managed this situation.
