I search on the google and i find..the perc s100 is only for windows. What controller is supported by centos? i thinking to perch200 or 5, 5/i. This is suported by centos? what controller recomanded me?

The S100 is for Windows only, as it is a driver-based RAID solution.  For CentOS, you can:

    • Turn OFF RAID and use the onboard SATA controller in SATA (AHCI) mode
    • Install an H200 (the only 'hardware' RAID solution for the R210 II)

(The PERC 5/6 and H200 MAY work, but they are not validated/supported for the R210 II.)

With RAID, there ALWAYS exist BOTH possibilities:  that a failed RAID can be recovered and that a failed RAID can't be recovered.  It depends on many things.  As long as you remember that RAID is NOT a backup strategy.

I edited a typo in my post:  the H200 is the only supported controller; the PERC 6 is not a supported controller, so nobody can guarantee it will work in your R210 II.

    Hi

The above point caught my attention. I would like whether it is possible to turn off the RAID in BIOS for all Dell server machines including those that have physical RAID hardware?

I was working at a customer that have a R320 Server, i do not know if the server have a hardware or software RAID. The customer want to disable the RAID controller and reinstall Windows. So is it possible to turn OFF RAID and use the onboard SATA controller in SATA (AHCI) mode on any Dell machines?

    Az

No, this isn't possible on all machines.  He is talking ONLY about the RAID on the motherboard.  It is little more than Intel's chipset RAID - the setting only changes the onboard SATA ports between RAID (S100/S110) and non-RAID functionality.

Not all systems have onboard SATA ports intended for drives and a controller card must be used.

Also, controllers like the PERC 6/i, H700, and H710 do NOT support non-RAID, so you can't use any drives connected to it without RAID enabled and configured.
