Precision 7820 CPU Questions
Hello, I am thinking of purchasing a Xeon Bronze 3204 from Dell's site for my Precision 7820 tower. My machine currently may or may not have a refurbished cpu inside and I am looking for a fresh new start just to be safe. My system currently has (x4) 8gb sticks of 3200mhz ram, would this memory downclock automatically to support the xeon bronze, which only supports 2133mhz, or would I have to change the ram too?
Also, I never purchased a cpu from Dell's site, are they guaranteed to be brand new? Dell doesn't say any details on the condition and I don't want to end up with a refurbished cpu for $600

It's understandable to pay the mark up price for warranty support and on demand service to keep minimal downtime in your business. But, CPU is one of the last component will fail in a system. Very unlikely to get the return of value spent.
I did several successful upgrades with decommissioned processors. But, if you insist to purchase from Dell, provide the product link to receive more accurate inputs.

That ad is for new processor with marked up price. The suggested retail price was around $250 and you can find new one for less than $200 from many vendors.

If you don't mind used processors, a pair of Xeon gold can be had for less than $80 USD on auction site. They are servers pulled and guarantee to work.
