Precision M4500 Backlight Keyboard
Hello everyone!
I'm a new user of this community, my name is Giacomo (=James) and I'm from Italy.
As object, I have a problem with the keyboard lighting of my Dell Precision M4500.
Most of the time the backlight doesn't work, sometimes it works but not when the PC starts after several minutes, sometimes it works immediately (rarely).
Sometimes it works if I click Fn+Right Arrow but most of the time it doesn't even work with the key combination.
Other times it works if I click Fn+F10 (but I think it's just a coincidence ...?).
Now it is running but if I open Keyboard Properties (from Control Panel) it tells to me: "Your system does not support this feature".
When it doesn't running it doesn't appear the card "Backlight" in Keyboard Properties.
I check it also in the BIOS (A16 version) but there isn't any option about it...
On Hotkeys card doesn't appear the combination Fn+Right Arrow:
I would like to solve this problem definitively, is there anyone who could help me?
I suspect it may be more of a software than hardware problem and I noticed that these keyboard problems were related to battery operation and the laptop's sospension/hibernation status.
In the past, in fact, it happened to me that only some keys of the keyboard did not work and this malfunction was linked to a malfunction of the battery and the closing of the screen (activation of the standby status of the laptop).
I don't know if it can be centered with this problem but from how it can be deduced from the properties of the keyboard it seems that option on this system cannot be activated even if in reality the backlit keyboard is there and it works (since I bought it, it has not been added then ...).
Thanks in advance to those who can help me and sorry for my english.
Sincerely,
Giacomo

Hi there,
I did not have a backlit keyboard come with my M4500, so I ordered one and installed it. Fortunately my BIOS recognized it. Under system configuration, keyboard illumination. I noticed from your screen shot that you have the enhancement pack installed which I tried using but it proved to be useless with windows 10.
You might try taking out the keypad and sort of clean the main connector and just you know, look it over and clean the main connector. I am not a Dell person but I can take my M4500 apart down to the bones and put it back together again 5 times. Changing mother boards, swapping chips, adding RAM, just for something to do, so I know this machine inside and out. I still haven't figured out why I always have extra screws left over when I'm done but.....
I just want to help out a fellow Precision M4500 user. I tried to help, sorry if it didn't help, but if I can be of any service let me know
Best Regards
Rick
