GREAT JOB! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. Could you mark the verify answer(s) that helped you solve your problem, so if someone else searches the forums, they can see what you did to fix your problem(s).
Try re-installing the printer using the instructions below and then tell me what happens.
First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and un-install all versions of Java, restart your computer and download and install the latest Java.
Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch (a MUST with Vista machines) to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer.
As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
Scanning
Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.
Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.
Thanks, I will try it tonight. But, I have a few questions, how do I un-install Java? Will it show up in Programs? Also, I am running XP not Vista, are the instructions the same?
Java can be installed on top the older version but sometimes the older version remails. It will shopw up in control panel, add, remove programs.
The patch is like a cleanup Utility and will remove the printer drivers. It works for XP, too.
I also forgot to mention, if you did a clean installatioin, is your computer a Dell and if so, did you install the drivers in the proper order.
The Desktop/Notebook Utility needs to be installed first, then the chipset drivers. If they are NOT installed first, then the rest of the drivers will fail to install.
Since the operating system was re-installed did you remember to go to drivers and downloads, enter your service tag(DO NOT POST SERVICE TAG here or your post will get deleted, since it contains your personal information), and install these drivers in this order.
:emotion-55: Hint :emotion-55: When downloading the drivers, make a folder for each drivers and name it with the device it belongs with to make it easier to install them in the proper order.
Desktop System Software or Notebook System Software Chipset or SMBus driver Processor Driver (if applicable) Video Audio (sound) Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse) Modem Network Card
I think I am in information over-load. I should have said, "I took my computer to a computer tech because of a virus", he/they re-installed the operating system. I will try to follow the instruction above. Thanks,
Try installing the printer using the instructions above. If you have problems with installing the printer, then you may have to install the drivers on your computer(Dell or NOT) and then you'll need to disconnect the printer, run the patch, restart when prompted, then install the proper drivers.
If you have any problems, please post back as I check the posts a few times a day.
