Dell 1700n Printer

Does anyone know how to adjust the margin settings on the 1700n Laser Printer? As I understand, the values are suppose to be as follows: Top= 0, Bottom= -1, Left= -6 and Right= 4. I have a user whos printer has different settings and the print goes off the right margin. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried resetting the printer to factory defaults yet?

In case you don't have the procedure.....
    1. Power OFF the printer and UN-plug any data cable(s).
    2. Open the front cover.
    3. Depress and hold both the Continue and Cancel buttons.
    4. With the cover open and both buttons depressed, power ON the unit.
    5. Continue to hold the buttons down until the Error light is the only one active.  (you will see the lights cycle several times before this occurs)
    6. Close the cover...... Done

Yes I have done that and I changed a setting in Config mode, which did not change the printing off the right margin. I turned on the Edge to Edge setting, which I thought would correct the problem. I have read all your blogs for this situation and found you be to be very helpfull, however, in one of your post you told Terrmc (I believe that was the name) that you where going to querry someone else and get the procedures for resetting the margins thru the printer. I have not been able to find any procedures for doing the reset and I am not a Dell Authorized Repair Agent. Any help would be most appreciated, as this is a local printer and the IT Department has told this user that when the printer becomes unuseable, it would not be replaced. The printer works good, except for printing off the right margin and not every page prints that way. I am wondering if I adjusted the margins in Word and Outlook to minus figures, if that would work. Anyway, I am awaiting your response on the margin reset, if possible.

Near the end of your reply...... "The printer works good, except for printing off the right margin and not every page prints that way". This little bit of info is important.

What does this really mean? To elaborate, if the printer had a problem that affected the hard-set margins, it would affect margins on everything printed, not just some things.

What prints correctly? What has a problem? Does the printer settings report print correctly? (briefly touch the Continue button while the printer is in Ready Mode and not printing anything else)

Since "not every page" prints incorrectly, I'd say you should examine the page layout/formatting parameters of those jobs you have a problem with.

btw.... I'm still pursuing an answer to "hard margin adjustments". To the best of my knowledge, and from what I read in my service manuals, there is a utility (owned by Lexmark) that adjusts these margins. I emailed my contact at LXMK immediately after the conversation with "Terrmc", but have heard nothing back. He usually pretty good at responding so I speculate he may have been laid off...... which would not be good.
