Go to SolutionDell 968 AIO, Windows 7 on Dell Studio XPS -- Messed Up
I have a Dell 968 AIO that was printing on using drivers (probably the originals) on my Dell XPS Studio 8000 Win 7 pc, about a week ago. It stopped printing a few days ago.
I assumed the problem was drivers and not ink. So I attempted to install new drivers. That didn't solve the problem. In fact, the new drivers wouldn't install completely. When it got to the last step of the install the installer just hung. More on this in a minute.
I bought new ink cartridges and that enabled me to test the 968 printer and it prints fine now.
However, when I tried to print a document from the computer.
I tried uninstalling the old drivers and reinstalling new drivers. Unfortunately, I had the USB cable plugged it. So I may have messed that up, and it wouldn't print. It couldn't "locate the file". I tried it again after unplugging the USB and running a registry cleanup. Still no luck, but worse, I noticed the installers had left a lot of baggage around.
- There's a c:/dell/drivers/986 folder that seems to have a lot of the old drivers.
- There was a c:/program files (x86)/Dell 968 AIO Printer folder
- And there's also a c:/program files (x86) (x86)/Dell 968 AIO Printer folder.
I followed the steps for a clean uninstall, and that's where I am now. However, there are a lot of files laying around in Dell related folders on my harddrive.
I'm sure I've made a complete mess of things, can anyone help?
Wendy
