I have a desktop Studio XPS 8100 - around 18 months old and running Win7 since new. I also have an older Dell 3010cn laser colour printer connected by ethernet cable to my router. My XPS is connected wirelessly to my router.
I had a previous Inspiron laptop running WinXP and connected wirelessly to the router and was able to print to the network printer with no issues. My wife also had an old Toshiba XP laptop that connected to the printer in the same way.
However my Win 7 XPS can not connect to the printer. When I run the Add Printer wizard, it finds the printer but then says "Automatically detecting TCP/IP port" and fails to connect. If I try manually setting the TCP/IP address and the port (to 9100) then I can add the printer but the printing fails.
I am not sure what else to do. I have rebooted the printer, the router and the PC. I have tried other LAN cables and LAN ports (pointless I know, as it works fine for other PCs). I have set the printer to DHCP instead of AutoIP.
It has been the same since I bought the XPS. I was lazy and ignored the problem previously, forcing it to print through the wife's XP laptop. No that it has died. I really need to find a solution.

Note that I have no issues using the wireless connection to the router to gt internet connectivity from the XPS.
