inserting a line in MS Word
Where the heck are the lines that are insertable in word document? Horizontally, I want it to extend from the beginning of my text (at .5 inches from the left) to the end of my text (.5 inches from the right).

Use the Table option. Enable (select) the bottom boarder of the inserted Table. Then enter the text into the table.JRosenfeld

Two other ways:
1. type _ to fill the line, indent it as you wish
2. Use the draw toolbar, draw a line of the length, clour and thickness that you want. place it where you want on the page. Right click on the line, click Format autoshape, edit the various settings as you want.

Go to Format|Borders and Shading. Select the setting (use Box), style, and width of the line you wish, then click in the Preview area to turn off the borders on the top, left, and right.
