No "Symbol" Entry in Word 2002 "Insert" Pulldown

A friend with a Dimension 4400 using an OEM version of Word 2002 claims there is no "Symbol" entry under the "Insert" pulldown menu. Is it possible he deleted this somehow? Is there a keyboard shortcut?

    If it was removed inadvertently, it may be replaced by going to View, Toolbars, Customize... then under the Commands tab and the Insert category, drag Symbol back to the Insert menu.

    Thanks, I had the same problem and could fix it.

    I have not fiddled with the menus and wonder how this could have been removed. Any ideas?
