Dell 4100MP w Momitsu DVI
I have my Dell 4100MP ceiling mounted and just bought the Momitsu 880N dvd player and have two questions:
1) Has anyone figured out the optimal custom dvi settings for the Dell 4100MP?
and
2) When I installed the cables in the ceiling, I only had the s-video, component video to m1-d, and vga cables - does a vga cable have enough pins to carry a full dvi signal if i get my hands on the right connector adapters? Or do I have to run a dvi cable that's 12m+ long and risk punching more holes in my ceiling?

(btw, i'm currently using the vga cable connected to the dvi output @ 1024x768 and the vga input on the projector with good results - the only reason i'm trying to improve is, i've seen the dramatic improvement dvi can have on this projector previously when i had it floor-mounted)

Neil, you want to buy a M1A-DVI (Gender Bender) ie. adapter. This will allow you to use a DVI cable rather than a VGA, Composite, etc..... As long as the HDCP functionality is turned off, your 4100mp should know how to decode properly. If the HDCP functionality is turned on, the 4100mp will go blank because it is not HDCP Compliant and does NOT know what to do with the signal. Let me know if this works for you.ErikThanks Erik. Unfortunately, at this point, running another cable is no longer an option. I now have to get the best possible signal/settings to run through my existing vga cable :smileysad:
I believe I've seen a reference on the avsforum.com site for a dvi/vga converter card combined with customizing the projector settings using catalyst control center from ati.com, but I haven't gotten back to working this. The fact is the current image is quite good, I just want to be sure I'm getting the best I can with what I have.

I know what you mean by not wanting to run new cables. Just a thought though! I think you have the best possible setup with the cables you are using. Maybe someone else might have other suggestions.
ps. I have heard that you are missing out if you're not using DVI.....
