bad blocks fixed -- Windows Me system restore

Components of the Windows directory in Windows Me were missing / corrupted.
The start of Dell Windows Me system restore processes the hard drive and "fixed" over sixty directories and then suggested the install to go to C:\WINDOWS.000 which I accepted.
However, near the end the install requests the Windows install KEY so how do I go about finding that?
It is (obviously) not with the restore CD and I do not see it ON the computer case, as in more recent Dell systems (Windows XP).

First, if there were bad blocks on the drive (not just file corruption or crosslinks), the drive is nearing the end of its life and should be replaced. The bad sectors will continue to propagate until the drive fails.

If there is no sticker with a CD key on it, the key is on the card or start guide that came with the OS CD.

I have multiple towers on the same physical desk. Eventually I saw the sticker on the SIDE of the tower (on newer models it is on the TOP).

The drive has massively cross-linked files. I ran SCANDISK /ALL /SURFACE

I have turned the PC back over to the owner (graduate student where I provide tech support at institution of higher education).
