I purchased a CD - RW / DVD drive. I installed it, and when I rebooted, none of the drives were accessible. I made sure I turned on the appropriate port in the setup and tried every available port. Anyone have any suggestions or instructions? I've never seen anything like this happen before, and I've installed dozens of these things....
If I understand your post: You have an E530, you installed a new drive, it does not appear and the existing one has disappeared. Both SATA ports for the two drives are ON. (I assume you connected to SATA4 and SATA5) Is the above correct?

To what SATA ports are the drives connected to? Are those ports set to ON? Are the SATA cables secure? Do the drives have power?

The initial DVD drive is connected to SATA1, and the port is ON
The new CDRW drive is connected to SATA4, and the port is ON
SATA5 is set to OFF
The cables are secure and plugged in the correct direction.
When you say "still cannot use the original drive"; does that mean the drive did not return to the Device Manager?
Are the power connectors secure to the back of the drives?
Was the original drive there at the time you installed the new drive? Did the disappearance of the original drive happen when the the new drive was installed?

How many drives do you have in your system?
Are the drives IDE or SATA?
