Check that your drive is in DMA mode and not PIO mode here .......
Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager
Click on the (+) next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. Right-click the channel the DVD drive is on and select Properties. Click the Advanced Settings tab.
The Transfer Mode box should be DMA if available and the below that the Current Transfer Mode box should be Ultra DMA Mode 2
I'm still playing with this thing...This is what I found so far.
Yes my DVD rom was set to DMA
However after some further investagation I checked the Primary channel and my Hard Drive was in PIO mode. I selected to use DMA when available and rebooted. It stayed in PIO mode.
I then deleted the Primary channel and it asked to reboot. When windows started it asked to reboot for the second time. Upon checking it this time my hard drive was indeed set to DMA.
I started Nero 7 up and made a DATA disk of about 3 GB of stuff from C:/program files just to test it.
The result was a perfect disk in 9 minutes. This is a major improvement!
Not sure what caused this to happen but will continue to monitor it.
Skybird & Osprey, Thank you for all your help and suggestions, It led me in the right direction.
