DIM 4400 Problem w/CD/RW
Hi Everyone,
LAst night I installed a NED DVD R/RW (3520A). Since I made the installation, my CD RW that came with my 4400 pretty much stopped working. It does not do autoplay anymore. I can install software, but it is slow and when I try to open a program it just takes me back to the desktop.
I figured that installing my DVD messed up the driver. I tried going back to the last driver on the control panel (System), but it tells me that there are no other drivers available. I also tried downloading the driver from Dell, but it asks me to save it to disk (3.5), which I did, but I cannot get it to boot.
I do have the Dell cds. but I cannot find a driver for it.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am running at 1.7 with 700+ MB Ram.
I think the CR RW works at 24x. It is the original that came with the system.
Thanks,
AJ

Hi AJ,
Real quick, when you installed the drive, did you set the jumper on the drive to Cable Select, this is the setting Dell uses.
If so, then enter the BIOS and verify that the IDE channel is set to Auto, also verify that you DMA enabled as well.
Best Regards
God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
