Disable Raid without Losing Data?

    I own a Dell XPS 410 with 1 harddrive in a RAID 0 configuration. I would like to know if I can simply disable RAID without losing the harddrive data.
 
    It sounds as though I could press F2 at startup, enter the system bios, and disable RAID detection without changing the drive via the Intel Application Accelerator. Is this possible?

    Hi,
     
    sorry you cant disable a raid array and keep you data..
     
    a raid array works like this.....
     
     
                 disc 1                                                                                 disc 2
     
        W (1st write) R (3rd write)                                                   O (2nd write) D (4th write)
     
    if you look you will see ive spelled the word     "word"        when your system right to the raid array it does so as ive list, so if you disabled the array, you would lose your data.

    if you have a single dics, there no need to even worry about it,, as its not running any Real array, but you still cant turn it off in the BIOS..

    Okay, but there is no disc 2 in my case. I see how the data would be tied to a RAID array with 2 drives, but I have never used more than 1 internal drive with the computer.

    So if I change Raid to autodetect/ata in the bios, I would not lose any data on my single hard drive?

    I own a xps 410 also and I changed RAID ON  to AUTODETECT it would not boot, so I changed it back to RAID ON, which is the default setting Dell configured. I only have 1 HD also. Everything works fine. Winxp MCE 2005

    Like tphillips said, leave it alone.
    If you only have one hard disk, you have no raid.
