DVD player
I have a six month old Dell 4600 series and I have just tried to use my DvD player for the first time, but all that happens when I insert a DvD is that I get a blank screen but I have sound.
I'm a user of computers - so plain english please a no jarjon.

What DVD program do you have on your 4600? Is it PowerDVD?
The first thing I would do is update your video drivers. Go here for the video drivers available for your system:
