Dynamic Disk help please

I have just reinstalled  XP Pro, I then added back a Hard Drive which I couldn't see till I found it in the Device Manager as a Dynamic Disk, I have loads of data on it that  can't afford to lose, is there any way that this Disk can be read in XP or are there any fixs or applications that can read it please?

Thanks

I think there is a way to import the dynamic disk from the Disk Manager, using XP Pro.  Not sure about XP home.

I have done this on windowS 2000 Server, and Windows 2003 Server.

I have never used Ghost, no idea, I think I have it somewhere, so how could Ghost manage to get the data off the disk when XP can't then?

    PS. thanks for you help!!

Yes I had a look at that info but still can't work out if I will lose all my data, surely the system that created it ie: XPPro should just be able to use it again so called plug&play style.
Now for some reason it shows up as a Basic drive but I can open it, it aske me to format, so them surely I would lose all my data?

    Thanks

Sorry, I realized after I posted that I had already posted that answer in the other forum.

I'm a little out of my league here. I'm not familiar with dynamic disks. It would seem the disk should be readable in XP Pro. Have you checked the attributes in disk management to see if anything looks wrong? Another idea would be to use Ghost or some other imaging program to get your data off the disk.

    Paul:

Ghost runs under its own OS. Well, at least the older versions do. So it may be capable of reading and getting to your data even though XP doesn't see it. I keep a Ghost 2003 boot disk handy at all times for this very purpose.

are you sure you are not using XP Home Edition ? That would be an explanation..

( right mouse click on "My Computer" and select properties. The XP version will be shown on the General tab )

    Microsoft says :

Once converted, a dynamic disk will not contain basic volumes (primary partitions or logical drives), nor can it be accessed by MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, or Windows XP Home Edition operating systems. Dynamic disks can only be accessed with Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional

My best guess is that Ghost won't help - as it relies on Dos.
