Formatting question

Hello
My Inspiron caught a virus last week and as it seems with a catastophic outcome, but enough of that. I have several questions that involve differnt forum threads so i'll just keep it to this one and simple. I have rinstalled windows XP twice now to sort this issue out and the same problem occurs, hmmmm Boot sector Viruis me thinks, soo i decided to format the entire drive today and that includes deleting all the partitions and My battery dies just ahead of selecting the format button (one of the pages ahead). My Windows instal disk is stuck in the cd reader and and i'm unable to restart my Inspiron. Now when i try to restat with pwr in the battery light flashes 5  times (i think) and gives up.

So my question(s) are this

1/ Is it likely the battery is at fault, or it something on the board

2/ Am i able to re-instal windows XP (using all of my original Dell CD's shipped with the unit) and diagnostic features this unit comes with in other partintions.

3/ If i send it back should i get a new drive, because ahead of reinstalling new XP s/w, my computer was making a very odd 'Chirping' noise is it likely that the drive is on the way out or just a symptom of this boot virus

Anyhow thats about it for now, if anyone would like to help or comment that would be great.

best Rgds

Simon
