Killdisk?

Ok so I just got my xp reinstall disk for my dimension 9100.  I currently have windows vista 32 bit and ubuntu on my hdd in a dual boot.  Should I use killdisk to erase the drive?  If I use killdisk and erase everything will I be able to just insert the xp disk and it will boot and start installing xp or do I need to format the drive or something?  Or should I do this another way?

thanks for the help.

    Hi, gamer:

No need to use Killdisk. Just use the XP reinstallation procedure to delete all partitions on the drive, then reinstall. Follow this guide to reinstall your operating system and device drivers.

I just tried to intstall by using the disk and it runs and then I get a blue screen saying that there was an unknown or hard error and it will not go any farther.  Any suggestions?

Just did it again to get the exact error code.  At first when the install starts it says to press f6 if i have sata drivers, here I do nothing and let it go.  Then it says loading files and goes through a bunch of things and then it says starting windows.  Then the screen goes black for about 2 seconds and then a blue screen with this error code:

    Stop: C0000221 Unknown Hard Error

    /System Root/ System32/ ntdll.dll

    hope this helps.

O yea I forgot to mention that I don't have a floppy drive.

Sounds like you have the SATA driver problem (you didn't give any details of the problem).  Did you provide the SATA drivers on a floppy during the install (you have to press F6)?  Or did you set the SATA operation to Combination in the BIOS setup?  If the problem is the SATA drivers, either of these two should solve it.

Well it seems to be the reinstall disk that dell sent.  I just remebered that I made a backup cd like a year ago and it is the same thing dell sent me and I just used it and seems to work.  I don't get the error with it.  I will know for sure tommorow when I try to install xp (I just quit now cause its getting a little to late).
