New Hard Drive Problems

I have installed a SeaGate 160Gb hard drive into my demension 2400 machine.  I followed the steps in the guide to transfer the data from the old 40Gb drive to the 160Gb and then make the 160Gb the master and 40Gb the slave for extra storage.  Everything boots up correctly on the new 160Gb drive, but  it is only recognizing 127Gb not the full capacity of the drive.  I read in the manual that the BIOS may need to be udated to recognize a hard drive over 137Gb, but i checked with the BIOS forum and they said that the 2400 should be able to accept large hard drives.  Any clue what went wrong or how to fix it?

    Check out the following,

Check the hard drive for any size limitation jumpers.

Before you cloned the drive, you need to have SP1 or SP2 installed and large drive support enabled.

I have done what the link above from seagate like it says.  The EnableBigLba registry value is set to 1, but the hard drive still is only recognized to 127Gb.  If i go through the BIOS before windows comes up, the new 160Gb hard drive is not recognized as the primary slave drive.  It does not recognixe any slave drive, but in windows i can acess and use the new hard drive.  I am at a loss now, any suggestions?

You cannot enable large drive support after cloning without using partitioning software like Partition Magic to extend the partition. You must go back, enable it on the original drive, and re-clone, using the option to resize on the fly.

If the drive isn't seen in BIOS, did you enable the channel corresponding to it, and make sure you have it jumpered properly (as cable select)?

Ok I got it fixed somehow.  I don't think i even did anything.  I decided to start all over again, so i formated the new 160Gb drive, and then did the whole process overagain by putting it as the slave and then using the software from seagate to transfer over all my information from the old hard drive just like i did before, but this time when i switched it back to the master, it recognized the whole drive.  I don't know what was diffrent about now then last time, but it works correctly...strange.  Thanks for your help!
