Those 2 "Recommended" updates are date-stamped Feb 6, but just showed-up today; I queued them for download, but after several minutes with little progress, I thought there was something wrong with my router — 'til I discovered the combined size of those 2 Zipped packages is over a gig! Right-off, I'm thinking that God only left me with just-over 8 gigs for my own use on this tablet, and I'm about to lose a whole-big chunk-a-dat, if I proceed. So, I decided to slow-dance with it & downloaded just the 1st "offering." After unpacking, the installer gave me a pop-up stating the program had to run in compatibility mode, but then I noticed the word "Securtiy" in the file name was also mis-spelled. It was at that point, WTF alarms started going off — so I cancelled the install and headed over here, to see what my budds have to say about this...
Imo, what we really need is software to protect us from Dell's software... :emotion-41:
I tried posting a follow up to this last night, but had trouble with it, and it looks like it didn't take.
I took another look at these updates, and it seems to me, that these are updates to the Dell Data Protection software. I don't have that package, so I don't think that there is any point in me installing the updates.
The 1st part (Tools) is brand-new to my tablet, but 2nd (Encryption) installer shows prior version. installed...
I have attempted to report concerns re. these 2 downloads to the 'crack' Mobility support staff; only took 24 minutes for them to even grasp a tiny piece of what I was saying — with a "Floor Supervisor" monitoring & coaching throughout the entire time. That supervisor eventually came on the line to say: "Not to worry, sir — we will forward your report about mis-spelled words to our 'backroom' staff."
Next time I call, I hope to be better-prepared: :emotion-35::emotion-60:
Since tab purchase in early December, I have only installed recommended Windows & Dell updates thru their respective auto-detect features; the earlier vers. of Data Encrypt says it was posted on Dec 9, & was apparently listed as recommended for Venue 8 Pro back then.
I don't think Dell is doing a good job in of indicating the importance of an update. Why would they "recommend" the Data Encryption update for users that didn't buy and install the Dell Data Protection software? IMHO you just wasted storage space when you downloaded the first version of it.
Same goes for the WAPI download. That's a Chinese standard (or a radio station in AL :emotion-4: ). I don't need that, but it's "recommended".
Got your point, & mostly agree, but alternative to accepting all recommendations, is spending way more time" going deep" on this quirky toy — while I also have Apple, IBM, Lenovo & Toshiba updates & issues queued; I used to have a Life! :emotion-9:
(Never been to Birmingham, but I recall reading about WAPI in the past; it's the government-sanctioned wireless LAN authentication standard throughout mainland China, and other protocols are "actively discouraged" — like exceeding a family's allocated number of children — except in this instance, they will cut the antenna off your router...)
With the threats that mobile users deal with each time theyt open important files or accounts using their devices, it is really a great advantage to know that there are already ways to ensure that user’s web browsers and office suites are contained in a special virtual environment. it is like having a computer within a computer. With Dell's data protection you won't even have to worry about being at risk from malware. You can surf the web as much as you want and stay safe! Simply amazing!

My opinion? — Outrageous!
