I have a brand new XPS10 tablet and I can't get the sound to work when using it and it used to work before. If I put in headphones then the sound works. I have checked the volume and divers and everything seems to be fine. I am at a loss and don't know what else to do. Any suggestions or help?
I have the same problem as liz080869 but Ravi's instructions did not help.
I received my Latitude 10 ST2 tablet in March 2013. It has worked fine until recently - now, I have no sound from the on-board speakers, as the original poster also claims. Plug-in headphones, plug-in external speakers, and Bluetooth headphones work fine, but when none of those are connected there should be sound from the on-board speakers - there is no sound.
I have refreshed the tablet thinking a Windows update or a Bluetooth driver had corrupted my audio drivers - no effect. I then reinstalled Windows (Settings - General - option for factory reset) - no effect. The speakers (Intel SST Audio Device WDM) are set as the default device and, at this time, there are no other playback devices listed. The volume icon does NOT have a red X on it, and the on-board speakers are being shown as the playback device. The Windows Troubleshooting tool can't find any problems.
I also used the online Dell Support: Dell PC Diagnostics - Analyze by Symptom - No Sound. Results: A diagnostic category was specified and the applicable device does not exist. I then did a Component Test - Sound Card. Results: A diagnostic category was specified and the applicable device does not exist. Well, that's bogus because the audio works fine through any plug-in headphones/speakers or Bluetooth. I ran a full system scan: CPU, System Memory, Video Card, Hard Drive, Battery, PCI Bus, and System Board - all passed. As you can see, a full system scan does not scan for audio issues. That's only available in the Component or Symptom scan which says the device does not exist.
I have used all troubleshooting tools I can think of. I have also downloaded and reinstalled the "Intel Driver Pack" with no effect. This appears to be a hardware issue rather than a software/driver issue since the audio works fine with headphones or speakers. My BIOS is version A03 - would version A04 fix this problem? It's not listed under "Filtered driver results for your service tag" but is listed under "All related drivers for your Product."
Same problem with my ST2. Headphones work fine, no speaker audio. Updated drivers, nothing.
It was working a week ago though.
When I put the sound on full, I do hear the slightest bit out of the speakers, like a tiny buzzing. nothing more. Checked all settings and sound volumes. Everything is on full blast. I'm going with Sandra on this - hardware issue.
I know this post is quite old but hope you can answer this. I have just upgraded to Windows 8.1 having just purchased the Latitude 10 ST2. I can't get any sound, speakers and headphone. I have tried diagnostics and no errors were found. I have also tried to update drivers (not that I can remember how) and none were required.
I have also tried your answer above bt still no luck. All windows said that the device was working correctly.
