help, new parasite, no internet
I posted in the general virus board, and the following is my log. yes I know this is an older version of HJT, but I was hoping ya'll could help, as I forgot to bring disc home with newest version on it.....
what happened: while online, newest version of mcafee asked if I wanted to allow popb.exe to access, and I foolishly said ok. now the computer will not turn off without using power button, and will not access internet. help! (while trying to post this, website deleted some html format, so I am unsure what effect this had)

- allright, I deleted those files and did not time to work on it much (date), so was unable to unzip new version and produce new log. internet does now work however, but outlook express does not. computer also still does not shut off without using the power button. I am going to disconnect my cable feed and totally reinstall the new mcafee package. the burning question is: I cannot locate the two files you advised that I delete. I cannot find them through find file or through scanning the directories/folders. they are hidden somehow. lastly I did not download from that additional site as when I visited it, the software/driver you mentioned did not jump out at me on their home page. we are almost there, any help on finding these files?

I don't remember the link right now, I can try to come up with a link for various solutions if you'd like. I don't remember the things I have tried on my machine - I finally just went to rebooting to dos prompt and then turn the computer off manually. There is a patch which will sometimes help and some users get help through a process of creating an icon on the desktop (I would have to find a reference to explain all the steps involved in that). I think my difficulty is currently caused by too many network drives and it is easier to just reboot it than disconnect a bunch of drives prior to shut down.Regards.

- ok, I finally uncovered the files and deleted the popb.exe file, however never found the lglyls.exe file. under search, I do have a C:windows\applog\lglyls.lgc, but it was created back in January, not on 4/10 when all my problems started, should I delete it?. I also tried to download the new HJT, but my Mcaffee erases it, cuz it says it has a virus w32/generic.worm!.p2e ? whasssup? here is my log now off an older version of HJT. the only thing that does not work is outlook express, it seems mcafee won't accept it as being allowed, so it continuously pops up asking if I will allow it access, even after notifying it in the firewall screen. So - what I think is that the file itself is a log of something - viewable in notepad - and that it is not a source of trouble, but that it is ok to delete it.REgards.cg
re: McAfee termporarily (and erroneously) picking up HJT 1.99.1 as a virus...
the same thing recently happened when, for a short while, AVG anti-virus temporarily and erroneously picked up HJT 1.98.2 as a virus.
so, "false positives" like this do happen.
