Help!

Hi,
I've been plagued by edirecting servers, pop-ups and the general annoyances for a week now.  I just found this forum and used some of the advises posted.  I thought that I had gotten rid of my problem but I still being redirected when I surf and still have pop-up and stuffs, although the quantity has greatly been reduced.  I ran the hijackthis log but I don't understand any of this.  Please take a look and let me know if I need to fix anything.
Also, does anyone know how to get rid of the System32 window that pops up every time my computer is turned on, regardless of whether or not it is connected to the internet?  How did it come about, anyway?

    Hi myth_of_time,

You aren't running Anti Virus Software. Please download and install one of them first!!!

Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
I recommend AVG Anti-Virus (Free Edition)!

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
    ---------------------------------------------

    Go HERE and download Deldomains.
    • 1. Save it to your desktop.
      2. Right-click DelDomains.inf and select: Install (no need to restart)
      3. You may not see any noticeable changes or prompts; this is normal.
    ---------------------------------------
Open HJT by navigating to your HijackThis folder and double clicking on HijackThis.exe. Select the second button entitled " Do a system scan only".
Now select the followng entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box

Once you have selected all entries, close all running programs then click once on the " fix checked" button to clear the entries from your log.
    --------------------------------
    Using Windows Explorer
    • (Right click on "Start," select "Explore," and you will see the "tree' of file folders in the left side of the window. Click on the "+" next to any folder name to expand its contents)
Locate and Delete the following files
    • C:\WINDOWS\System32\ ypwguodd.dll
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now we need to do a search.
Start > Search > For Files and Folders.
Expand Search Options, check Advanced Options, check Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search Subfolders.
Paste this into the Search for files and folders named box:

    scvhost.exe

If this file is found please delete it.
Note: This file is named similarly to a legit Windows file. Make sure the name is copied and pasted so that only the bad file is deleted.

Please post back with a fresh HijackThis log once all of the above steps have been completed.

    Thanks,

    hi,
I tried following your direction but I'm not sure if it worked.  Also, When I did HJT to "fix checked", some items you told me to check were there.  Those that were not there are:
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.drivecleaner.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.errorprotector.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imagesrvr.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.systemdoctor.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.winantivirus.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.drivecleaner.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.errorprotector.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.imageservr.com (HKLM)
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.winantivirus.com (HKLM)

I then went to Start, selected "Explore all users", and looked for the Windows file under C disk.  The list generated did not contain any folder named "System32", but has one named "System".  I went to the "System" folder to look for ypwguodd.dll but I did not see it.

I then did a search option for file scvhost.exe through Advanced Search Option but it came up empty.

I ran HJT and my log is below.  Before I attempted the steps you recommended, I tried installing Windows Update Service Pack 2 but the computer seemed to freeze or stall.  I assummed this since the progress bar remained at the same place for about an hour or so.  I then re-install AVG anti-virus.   After I installed the anti-virus, my computer shows signs of sluggishness, and slow respose.  Prior to posting my help message, I had my computer on Symantec Norton Anti-Virus, but it did not seem to help, and even slowed the machine down.  And a lot of Auto(something) windows popped up letting me know that some virus or spyware, etc was detected, but the program did not take any action, and then the windows got the "Not Responding" message.  After I took the Norton Anti-Virus off, the computer runs much faster.  I assume that some components of the Norton Anti-virus were not completely removed since my Recycle bin still says "Norton Protected Recycle Bin".  I went to Symantec website but their instruction did not seem to help.  If you have any idea of what's going on, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Hi myth_of_time,

Important! Do not update to Windows XP SP2 yet. Doing so with an infected system can cause your PC to crash. Please wait until I tell you that you are clear to update to SP2.
    ----------------------------------------

    Download the Killbox.
    Unzip it to the desktop

    Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

    Select " Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\ypwguodd.dll
Put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot"
Click the red-and-white " Delete File" button. Click " Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click " No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
    -------------------------------------------------

Open HJT by navigating to your HijackThis folder and double clicking on HijackThis.exe. Select the second button entitled " Do a system scan only".
Now select the followng entries by placing a tick in the left hand check box

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: mljigfg - mljigfg.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: NavLogon - C:\WINDOWS\

Once you have selected all entries, close all running programs then click once on the " fix checked" button to clear the entries from your log.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding removing Norton's...please visit this link and download and run the Norton Removal Tool to ensure that all traces of Norton are gone. Norton is not a bad program, it is just a resource hog, slowing down your computer.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, reboot your PC then post back with a fresh HijackThis log for me to review.

    Thanks,

I didn't know that the Windows SP2 can crash my system.  I went to Windows Update page and did a bundle update it said my computer needed, which included SP2, before I received your message.  Should I uninstall the package then?   The first time I tried to update my computer and the SP2 package stalled, my computer did crash and shut down a few times, then I uninstalled the component of SP2.  I was then received lots of notices of new hardware found on my computer, which stopped after I had the bundle update that included SP2.
Please let me know what I should do.  In the meantime, I'll try to uninstall all the Norton's stuffs.
    thanks

    Hi myth_of_time,

You can continue where you're at. Please hold off on going any further with Windows Updates or SP2 until I tell you that you are clean.

For now, once the steps in my last post have been completed, please post back with a fresh HijackThis log.

    Thanks,

    markamus

    Hi,
this is my new log.  I think that I still have Norton's Antivirus or Symantec components in my computer.  Is there a way that I can check for it to be sure, except that my Recycle Bin still has the Norton name on it.  thanks

    Hi myth_of_time,

    1. Download this file - combofix.exe
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please post back with the Combofix log.

    Thanks,

    markamus
