    icyguy,

    Ok, let's get started...

Reboot your computer info "Safe Mode"

    -----

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(unistall) the following, if present:

    PIB
    TIBS
    WinTools

    -----

Open Windows Task Manager, and 'end' the following processes, if present:

    TBPSSvc.exe
    PIB.exe
    PIB.exe

If you find, and 'end' any, be sure to refresh the list and make sure they're gone.

    -----

Run HiJackThis, then click "Config...", then "Mics Tools", then "Delete a file on reboot". Now browse to, and select the following file(s), one at a time, and selecting "No" when prompted to reboot.

    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

You'll need to click "Delete a file on reboot". before browsing to, and selecting each file. Remember to select "No" to rebooting after selecting each file.

    -----

Now, in the lower right-hand corner of HiJackThis, click "back", then click "Scan" and check(tick) the following, if present:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - (no file)

    O3 - Toolbar: &Search Toolbar - {339BB23F-A864-48C0-A59F-29EA915965EC} - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TBPS] C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

Now with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    -----

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present:

    folders...

    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar
    C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools

    Reboot your computer normally.

    -----

Mike:  Thanks for your help on this!  I'm running into an issue with the 2nd task in your instructions.  I have TBSSvc and PIB processes showing up, but only when I'm not in safe mode.  When I try to end them, they just pop up again somewhere else.  Thanks!!

    icyguy,

If they're not showing up in "Safe Mode", try booting into that, then just skip the particular step that looks for the processes to 'end'.

"Safe Mode" may keep the problem(s) from starting up, making the cleanup alot easier.

    Mike.

    icyguy,

Good work! That's looking alot better!...

Have HijackThis fix the following lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = C:\WINDOWS\system32\search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\system32\searchbar.html

O23 - Service: WebSeach Toolbar support NT service - Unknown - C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe (file missing)

Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove anything that it finds; especailly temporary internet files and offline content.

Run AdAware SE Personal and Spybot S&D, and let it clean up any residual registry entry(s) or file(s) there we're left behind from the 'infection', that HiJackThis couldn't fix.

Disable, then re-enable system restore (with a reboot in-between), to 'flush' the current restore points, then immediately create a new restore point manually.

Post back a new log for final clearance.

    Your more than welcome!,

    Mike.

    iceguy,

It looks like we may have got this one. Now let's see if the following entry(s) come back...

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

    Now for some cleanup...

    • Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds.
    • Run AdAware SE Personal and Spybot S&D, and allow it to remove any residual registry entry(s) that couldn't be 'fixed' with HiJackThis.
    • Run an online virus scan of your choice.
    • Disable, then re-enable system restore (with a reboot inbetween), then immediately create a new restore point manually.

Be sure to check all user accounts on your pc for an 'infection'.

    Reboot your computer.

If those entry(s) didn't come back, then your good to go. Otherwise, post back a new log and we'll see if something else might have 'peered' itself out.

    Mike.

Mike:  I've re-run logs several times and the nasties aren't showing up any more.  My system performance has vastly improved!  Thanks again for all of your help on this and Happy Holidays to you!!!!!

    Thanks,

    Dan
