snap.do and worse
With my new computer, I somehow picked up a start page hijacker that wanted to scan my new machine for "updates and an offical version of windows 8.1 for $15.00 ." It blocked internet access. This, I removed with Malwarebytes. But I still have a serious problem. All searches are now from snap.do that I refuse to use. It got better after a Norton Rootlet scan but isn't gone. I can use Norton Safe Search utility.. Norton would not start scans until I ran Malwarebytes. I even had I explorer messed with. It suddenly said "reset proxy settings." I don't have a proxy." accurate addresses are not interferred with by snap.do. Others insert google after a search before the site will open. Suggestions??? Lots of sites offer downloads to fix and remove snap.do, but I don't trust them.

Unless Bugbatter (or Joe53) reply here with knowledge of a removal tool for your problem [in which case I defer to them], be advised that one-on-one Malware Analysis/Removal is no longer done at the Dell Forums.
Please follow the directions at http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=12262.0 to register and post the requested DDS logs at spywarehammer.com ; there are expert helpers there who can "walk you through" procedures to analyze your system, and clean-up the infection. All help provided there is FREE. If you decide to go for help there, please wait for a response, and do NOT attempt to run any other scans/removers on your own --- do exactly what they instruct you to do, no more, no less.

Lawrence, if your new computer is running Windows 8/8.1 not all tools work well on those new operating systems yet, so some scanners may miss files.
I no longer see Snap.do in the database (as of April 2014) of one or more of the popular tools mentioned in the February 1, 2013 article Joe posted. I'm not suggesting that you follow the same instructions, but as you can see Snap.do will need a combination of procedures to remove it completely. If you post at SpywareHammer or someplace that does one-on-one removal, tell them we sent you.

So far I have not been able to follow any instructions. Snap.do changes any down loads to garbage. My installer is also bugged. I tried loading Aw Snap.do has blocked all software downloads by changing the programs to bad stuff as they are installed. cleaner
That surprises me. Your helper at SpywareHammer should have discussed what to do. Essentially, the malware needs to be suppressed before running anything to fix it. If that doesn't work, reformat and reinstall Windows. Please post a link to your topic at SpywareHammer. If you have not been able to post at all, use your good computer to tell them that.So far I have not been able to follow any instructions. There is something wrong with Dell's login procedure. It is a chore to login here multiple times just to reply to posts. I've given you all the information. I'm finished replying to this topic.

I reinstalled the factory condition. after deciding snap.do was too malicious to keep trying to remove.. The final straw was a Spanish commercial for software while my browser displayed in French.. fortunately, the new computer was almost empty. Thanks for your advice and sympathyuse free AdWcleaner or \ and MBAM + manual removal instructions
AlserT, not only is Namosofts a commercial site, but it has an unsatisfactory rating by Web Of Trust: https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/namosofts.com
Therefore, I do not recommend downloading so-called tools or cleaners from a site with that rating. The original poster has solved his problem, so no further help is needed in this topic.

I removed snap.do manually and with malwarebytes pro and Norton Power Eraser.. Snap.do blocked Norton and prevented any downloads of anything without inserting trogons and more spyware. I downloaded from another computer and transferred antispyware from a usb stick.. This all started because McAfee allowed it . I solved my problem, thanks. I also noticed that much antispyware is not safe.

I can't vouch for the instructions, but they seem sound (including MBAM, AdwCleaner, and HitmanPro, all of which I use or have used).
