Mary, before you uninstall the old version, go to Immunize and disable all browser protection, etc. (It may take a few minutes for everything to Undo.) Then uninstall the program. Reboot, and install the new one.
Thanks, Joe and Bugbatter, I just finished, and all went well. I could have sworn the last program update came through the internal updater, but I decided to just go ahead and uninstall. I hate these senior moments!!
I just uninstalled the old version and installed the new without doing anything with the immunization feature. Did I mess anything up? I see this new version still has that annoying feature that will empty your temp files by default unless you say no.
I do know that a clean uninstall of SpywareBlaster requires that you disable all protection, but I wasn't aware of a similar requirement for Spybot S&D.
Good job, Mary. It does make a cleaner installation that way.
Dale, leaving the immunization isn't as much of a problem unless you completely remove Spybot without installing the new version. In those cases we have to re-install Spybot, undo the BHO protection and uninstall it again.
Speaking of that, why don't you just uninstall Spybot and stay with MBAM? I did that a year or so ago and never looked back.

Mary:
I have always uninstalled the old, and installed the latest version of Spybot, available here:
http://www.spybotupdates.com/files/spybotsd162.exe
I can't recall if it is available through Spybot's internal updater.
