SQL server installation

Everytime I start up my computer an error message comes up saying that "Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with.  Please uninstall then rerun setup to correct this problem"
My computer has also been running slower and my wireless internet connection says that the signal strength is very low.  I didnt know if these things were related. Does anyone know what i need to do to correct the error message and other computer problems?
I tried restoring my computer settings to a previous date but it said my computer could not be restored.  THanks for the help!!

    mannygirl,

Are you running an SQL server on your system? I'll need to see a HiJackThis log for analysis; do you know how to download and post one up for review?

    Amanda,

Let me see if I can help there...

Download, then unzip to " C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.1. Now, let's do the following:

    1. Click " Scan"
    2. Click " Save log"

Notepad will pop-up with a copy of your system long, then:

    1. " Edit | Select all"
    2. " Edit | Copy"

Next, let's " Reply" back to this post, then:

    1. Right-click on the message body.
    2. Select " Paste"

Then just " Post" the message, and we'll analyze your log shortly, then post back any recommendation(s).

    -

If your having a problem getting the 1.99.1 version to run properly on your system, try downloading and running the previous version; HiJackThis 1.98.2.

    Amanda,

There nothing really major that I can see from the log. There are a few item(s) that you might consider uninstalling and removing, but i'll leave those upto you - some of them, like Viewpoint Manager require alot of system resources.

    -

Let's see if the next scan can locate something that we couldn't see with HiJackThis.

    Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

    1.  Click "Free Online Scan".
    2.  Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

    1.  Select all available drives.
    2.  Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
    3.  Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

       Viewpoint Manager
        Web Related
        WildTangent

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done ' cleaning' off your system, we're going to ' flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.

Also move the "Backups" folder, for HiJackThis, if present.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain

    O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm (file missing)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    folders...

       C:\Program Files\WildTangent

    -

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

    Download mwav.exe from MicroWorld, then:

    1.  Double-click the mwav.exe icon to run it (it'll self extract).
    2.  Click "Scan".
    3.  When it completes, post back the results from the 'Virus log information' pane.

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

    -

    Mike.

    Amanda,

Just use the mouse and drag-select all the text in the virus log information pane, then either right-click on the text and select "copy", or press "CTRL-C", then paste the text back to this post.
