Zone Alarm Free

Is Zone Alarm Free compatible with Windows Vista? Opinions on Zone Alarm Free and links for downloading would be appreciated.

This is from Scot Finnie's July/07 Newsletter

    " Comodo 3.0 Is Close
I got an email from a Comodo marketing VP letting me know that Comodo 3 is about six weeks away from release. I don't have much detail on the product, but some of the product features are listed on this Comodo Forums post.
The most notable changes are Windows Vista support (both 32 bit and 64 bit) and a host-intrusion-prevention system (HIPS) module — both of which should be welcome additions."

In the same article, Finnie also reports some problems  with Comodo, and workarounds

    I like that quote too!

I suppose if enough people complain to Finnie about Comodo, he might just conclude there are no good 3rd party firewalls out there. :smileysurprised:

And to be perfectly honest, I have to admit that none of the software firewalls I've tried has ever detected any malware trying to phone home. For the average user, it might well be that all one really needs is Windows firewall (particularly if you are already behind a hardware firewall).

Of course then you would be denied the pleasure of blocking WMP from telling the mothership of your viewing habits.

So Comodo it is, but does it run well on Windows Vista?

    Sorry for any confusion here:

The links cited above serve to point out the "decline" of the free ZoneAlarm product, as well as to mention some alternatives.

Unfortunately though, Comodo Firewall Pro [currently] supports [only] the 32-bit versions of Windows 2000, and Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003.

Hmm. I guess I'll just wait until Comodo comes out with a firewall compatible with Vista. The XPS desktop running XP Professional is my father's and I'm sure he doesn't want me fooling around with it.

Jetico firewall seems like a favorite too and is compatible with Windows Vista. I'll probably use that.

Comodo should run on your XPS 1400 - Windows XP Professional

of course, that'll mean you'll have to get used to different firewalls on each of your pc's
