Has anyone tried alternative replication seeding via USB drive shipped to DR location migrated via server to DR VNXe then synced with Production VNXe? Is that a viable strategy?
No, VNXe does not support this kind of seeding for replication. The replication sync has to be done over the network. You cannot copy the data to destination by other means (like tape backup or USB drive copy) and start the sync. Whether the data size is 10GB or 10TB, the sync has to be done over the network.
If two VNXe systems has to be in different locations and connected via WAN link, other viable option is connect two VNXe systems in same network (LAN) and complete the initial sync. Then pause the replication session and move the destination to remote site. Once in destination site resume the replication.
By block I was referring to the iSCSI LUNs. For the advantage of not having to ship the DR box around I have been trying to think of scenarios. I have seen virtual versions of of the VNXe Unisphere OE. Could a replication session be targeted to such VM using a USB/eSATA drive for storage and paused. Then the HD shipped to the DR location, attached to a DR Unisphere VM, replicated to the DR VNXe and fractured and then synced.
What aspect of the replication process gets in the way of such a scenario.
VNXe does not support block level replication. You can use Unisphere to create replication sessions for VMware VMFS, VMware NFS, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Hyper-V, Shared Folder, and generic iSCSI storage. See Supported storage resources for iSCSI replication and Supported storage resources for NAS replication for more information about creating replicas for those storage resources. These are all based on file level replication.

Hi,
Could you please provide the VNXe model number that you are referring to?
Thanks
