Add Windows Components

From Control Panel, if I click on "Add/Remove Windows Components" I get the following message:

Setup was unable to open information file Sonic.inf

The specific error code is 0x2 at line 2088999592

Any help would be appreciated.

put in your xp cd then hit start>run> here type

    cmd

    hit ok

then in the command prompt type this:

    expand X:\i386\sysoc.in_ -r C:\windows\inf

now you have to change teh "X" to what ever your drive letter is for you cd/dvd drive you just put your xp cd in.

and you also have to change the "C" to what ever your main drive letter is, if yours is C also then leave it alone.

make sure everything else is exactly as you see it up there

Thanks. I tried that 4 times and got the same message everytime:  "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

PS. Are there any spaces in the cmd prompt you recommended and, if so, where? (after expand, for example)

    please copy and paste this:

    expand D:\i386\sysoc.in_ -r C:\windows\inf

you are missing spaces between "_" and "-r"  also between "-r" and "C:"

I did it and the file expanded by 118%. However, when I click on "Add/Remove Windows Components", I still get the same error message.
