I had a problem with my windows operating system and had to reload everything on my warranty replacement hard drive and lost my DVD decoder. Since everything is out of warranty I need to get both a DVD decoder and something that will let me burn DVDs to store files, create backups, etc. I think I had Cyberlink Power DVD for the decoder and Sonic for burning DVDs preinstalled in my original drive.
Now I am looking at purchasing both a DVD decoder and something that will let me burn DVDs. It seems that there are a vast number of programs and choices out there – Cyberlink Power DVD, WIN DVD,… and there are standard and deluxe versions of the programs. There are also combination programs like CyberLink DVD Suite 5. I am not sure what to get out of all the choices.
I want something that will give me very good quality playback (I am not sure what the real difference is between standard and deluxe versions of these programs) and will give me the flexibility to do many things ( I am not sure if I should buy decoder and DVD burner programs separately). Though I do not watch movies too much on my system I am one that prefers to get something of quality that will not need replaced for a while (which is why I bought an Inpsiron 9300). At the same time I need to watch my budget and cannot afford to spend too much. If you know about the different products out there what would you recommend?
Inspiron 9300 Windows XP (Media Center Edition) Pentium M 1.73 GHZ, 2MEGB, 533 FSB Memory: 512 MB DVD +/- RW, 8X IDE, NEC Corp Graphics: 128 MB Hard Drive: 80 GB 17” Wide Ultra Extended Graphics Display
if you did not get the CDs with the computer, then you could ask for one from the dell tech support for inspirons.. they might ship you one... try contacting them before buying.
Hey its Xydon and not Wydon :smileyindifferent: .. I heard one of my friends saying that they would incase the cds were not sent along with the computer.. and there is no harm in giving a try right :smileywink: ... I'm sure they would incase OP did not get them along wit the computer ...
Nvidia purevideo is a highly regarded decoder. I definitely can tell the difference - it's the only one that I've tried so far that gets rid of the jaggies.
Tsunami DVD author 2.0 is great - has nice menu options, is affordable, compresses content to 4.7gb/8.4gb if needed.
Oh yeah, and Video Redo is great, along with DVD Fab Decrypt, for ripping your previously purchased movies for DVD burning (backups, of course) and converting to PSP/Ipod format (with PSP Vid 9).
