computer sluggish
I have Dimension 4550, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66 GHz; Processor Speed: 2.59 GHz; Memory: 512MB. (XP Home Edition) All of a sudden, getting into Word or right clicking into the menu of an icon on desktop takes so long. I regularly defragment, no viruses, no spyware (have spybot and SpyBlaster), plenty of free memory, only into 1 program at a time, have checked Task Manager and it shows that I am using from "System Idle Process: 99 CPU. Task Manager also shows that my available physical memory fluctuates around 3119244 out of 523268 (when I am in Word).
I also purchased Windows Washer. I was told by all that it was safe. Could someone help me figure out why my computer is acting so slow. I printed up an Error Log report from my computer. Some descriptions of problems have included: DCOM, NtpClient, Hanging application, hungapp, W32Time. I have no idea what any of those mean or if they are relevant to my problem. Help, please. Thank you for any assistance. attymusic.
