I have just had the Windows 10 Anniversary update, and have an BSOD issues, This seems to only happen when I plug my Kindle into the USB 2,0 port (I have used the same port and cable to charge my Xperia M2 phone with no problem)
The BSOD says "SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDELED" and gives "partmgr.sys".
The process known as Partition Management Driver or Partition Manager belongs to software Microsoft Windows Operating Systemby Microsoft (www.microsoft.com).
Description: The original partmgr.sys is an important part of Windows and rarely causes problems. Partmgr.sys is located in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder. Known file sizes on Windows 10/8/7/XP are 19,712 bytes (42% of all occurrences), 18,688 bytes, 53,120 bytes, 54,248 bytes or 49,256 bytes. The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The program is not visible. The file is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. There is no detailed description of this service. The partmgr.sys file is a Windows core system file. partmgr.sys appears to be a compressed file.
You can try the following information to see if that will resolve the error.
A unique new feature of Windows 8 or higher is the ability to repair all Windows components with the DISM command. This will save you the work of reinstalling Windows. If you use the /ScanHealth parameter instead of /Restorehealth, you can just check your computer's health.
Run the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Since the error started after the Windows 10 update you may consider uninstalling the update. There are reports of this update causing issues with some systems.
So, it seems that as "partmgr.sys" is a Trusted Microsoft file, and therefore not the problem. It must be some other driver..
I ran DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth but this indicated that there were no problems!
I have pretty much concluded that this problem only happens (As it did again today) when I plug in my Kindle. Odd though, I use the same USB port & cable to charge my Phone, and nothing happens then!!
What I ask myself is different between the two?? could this point in a direction to search for an answer??
