e-mail attachment

Someone sent me an e-mail that is supposed to have photos. But  the file will not open saying it is an e-mail file and with uknown application to open it. How do I find what will open it,or how can the person send it so it will open? Thanks.

    what is the file extension for the files?  .zip?  .jpg?  .rar?

    That is the problem.All it says on the properties of the file is -email file.

    Using OE? double click the email to see attached files.
