Hardware initialization fails during Windows XP reinstall
Heya,
I've got a Dell Latitude that I was trying to reinstall Windows XP on. It detects the OS CD during boot and displays "Press any key to boot from CD". Then "Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration." Then the screen goes black and nothing further happens.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause it to hang at that step? I've got everything disconnected from the computer -- no wireless cards, usb devices, printers, nothing -- and the only change to the machine from when I got it is that I replaced the floppy drive with another battery, so I wouldn't imagine that it's a hardware conflict, but, well, what else could it be? I'm stumped.
