High Processor Usage

I have a pentium 4 processor 3.0GHz with HT technology.Using the windows tasks manager it tells me that my processor is using between 15 and 60 percent, the processor usage tends to spike up to 60 percent for a couple of seconds.I dont think i have many processor heavy programs running, could someone tell me what the heavy processor usage might be.

In task manager, click on the processes tab and look in the CPU column. Look for something, aside from system idle process, that's using the CPU time. Could be delayed procedure calls.

Scan you system for viruses and malware with latest dat files.

Certain older versions of nvidia video drivers may cause spikes in CPU usage. If you have that type video card, you probably want to get the latest driver directly from nvidia.com (not Dell).

And if you search these forums you'll find lots of posts about CPU usage spikes and a bunch of different things that worked on various 8400 configurations.
