Uh, huh. Somebody (or something) has been playing with System Properties Advanced settings. Right click on My Computer. Left click on Properties. Click on Advanced tab. Click on Performance Settings. On the Visual Effects page, scroll down to "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop". Put a check in the box beside it. Apply. Should fix your problem.
Tony, I tried this and all the icons on my desktop still have the labels below them highlighted. Do you have any other ideas? I reset my resolution and before I did that, they were not highlighted. Thanks for any ideas.
What was resolution before and after your change? I assume you've already tried to switch back to old settings with no change in the shadow box. Have you checked System Properties settings for monitor? Is it Default or Plug and Play or what? What video card is in your system? Some video cards do weird things with certain settings. Crazy as it sounds, you might put back the settings I had you change and see if problem corrects itself on reboot.
Click on My Computer. Left click on Properties. Go to Advanced tab. Click Performance Settings button. Uncheck "Show shadows under windows" and "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop". Apply. Still no change? Go back, check them both and Apply. Still no change?
