Installing XP SP2 caused AOL disconnects

I have a Dell SmartStep 100D which came packaged with AOL, XP, and Norton. When the trial period ended, I continued subscribing to AOL and Norton.

Since installing XP Service Pack 2, my AOL service suffers frequent disconnects. AOL service techs have suggested no less that 12 ways to solve the problem. Nothing has worked so far. They seem to be clueless about this one.

I can't believe I'm the only person on planet Earth with this problem. Has anyone seen anything like this?

make sure you have the most recent modem driver...

you could also try reinstalling SP2 to confirm that it is the problem

also, there are a lot better and cheaper ISPs out there...

I have run across the same problem with two Dell computers.  Both when upgraded to SP2.  However the problem does not occur if I use another ISP and even running AOL on top of the connection from the ISP.  I haven't tried looking at the Dell website to see if there is an update to the modem software however it appears to me that it is an AOL problem with modems.

The third AOL tech to look at it said my computer didn't have enough RAM to properly use AOL 9.0 Optimized. (I have 128.) I'm not going to fiddle with my RAM, so I backed out XP SP2 instead. Since I did that I'm running AOL okay. I occasionally have a bit of trouble connecting, but a shutdown and startup fixes that problem. I'm annoyed with AOL and may drop them at a convenient moment.

I have 512MB of Ram so that is not the problem.  Thanks.
