Is Win 7 an upgrade or a clean install?
When I bought my computer I was told that Win 7 was a clean install and would mean a reformat. Today I was chatting to the sales guy and when I commented that I'd waited a month to install some software (didn't want to do it twice) he said Win 7 was an upgrade and therefore I could have installed it as I wouldn't lose it when I go to Win 7. Is this really true?

It all depends on which version of Vista you currently have, and which version of Windows 7 you are moving to. Some combinations require a clean install while other combinations allow you to do an in-place upgrade (see this article).
