Music Match won't open

When we got the computer Dell Dimension 2400-3 wks ago, the Music Match Jukebox opened and played great.  Now, it won't even open; the Jukebox 9 window pops up for approx 3 sec and the start up music begins-then it just shuts down like it's being blocked.  I disabled the firewalls and Norton in case that was the problem but even with all disabled-the 3 sec shut down still continues.
The computer is running XP home which is set up for automatic updates-one update did happen just before the Jukebox started acting up.
We read in the Dell forums where we may need to uninstall and re-install, but don't have the CD to re-install.

I did search the Add/Remove programs and found some MusicMatch drivers programs as well as other Music Match restore options.  I just don't know if these are the problem so I don't want to make things worse until I hear if this is a common occurence or if there's a quick, simple fix.

Any suggestions & comments will be greatly appreciated.

If you want to update to the current version try the link below. This is for 10.1 version that will exhibit Dell branding. Musicmatch Jukebox free download:

    http://www.musicmatch.com/download/music_intro.htm?OEM=DELL_WEB&DID=999994757

The link below will allow you to get the older versions of Jukebox.

I have used both 8 and 9 in the past. Currently using 10, not 10.1. The 10 has caused me no problems, however, others have reported problems. Decide what is best for you and your needs.:smileyhappy:

Kathy - I had the same problem and got very frustrated.  When an automatic update of MM installed I began having problems.  I had to uninstall the entire program and it was a complicated process finding all the nooks and crannies to look for Musicmatch parts, but once I did that and then reinstalled version 10, everything works fine now.  I didn't have the disk but the person at MM that emailed me the instructions also sent me a link for the download.  You can also get it on their website.  Just the last few days I have been having problems with my Earthlink Total Access email account (not related to MM problem) or I would be happy to forward the email instructions that were sent to me.  It is very frustrating and I am not good with computer problems.

I followed the links but this site appears to charge for the MusicMatch Jukebox-there was no free option. The site says it's a 7 day free trial and songs are 99 cents each.    Also, will selecting the 10.1 version overwrite the current version that's installed?

I'm sorry if that's a dumb question but I really don't know.  This is the first computer that I've ever had that had the capacity to do any major downloads! :smileywink:

OK, try this one at soft32.com. It will be free for sure. I think the charge that you mention is for one of the premium services. As far as I know the basic jukebox is free. The PLUS version and on demand items do cost.

If you can open MM Jukebox you can click on "options" and then click "upgrade". You should be able to upgrade on top of the current version. I have done this on several different computers and have had no trouble.

Another alternative is to use the Microsoft Media Player that is free and perhaps is already on your computer.

Yes it can be confusing but I hope you will be up and running shortly.

I am having the same problems, it will launch (80% of the time) and then as soon as I try to play a selection saved or play a cd, it shuts down and tells me "....musicmatch component has encountered a problem and needs to close....".  Trying to get support is virtually impossible, but after about 20 emails and threats to post how good their support and program is on blogs they finally responded.  Their answer was to delete my temp. files/cookies........still no go!  I am now trying to remove and reinstall the program as previously said in this forum.......hopefully it works!
